May 11th 2010---Beginning of the Blog Life

I want to start off by introducing myself. My name is Megan, Im 26 years old and I am not married. I live with my boyfriend Chris, our cat Ally, and our Dog Buddy. I just recently graduated from college in Sept. of 2009 with an associates degree in computer networking systems. I now work in a great office where I am a customer service representative.

The reason I am starting this blog is because I have recently became what I call semi-vegetarian. I do not eat any kind of meat but I so eat dairy products such as eggs, cheese, and milk. The big difference from being a Vegan and Semi-Vegetarian is the Dairy products. Vegans eat nothing that comes from an animal period; while us "semi's" do. I been eating this way for a little over three weeks now and Im feeling great.

Now for a little background on where I was before I ate this way. Im the kind of girl that would pick a big juicy steak on the menu over a garden salad anyday and the burger category, forget about it! I LOVE Burgers! One of my top favorite foods. One day I woke up and realized I didnt like what I looked like or how I felt everyday and I decided to make a drastic change.

I did a little research into vegetarianism and thought this is going to be very hard for me. In reality, Im shocked I didnt quit sooner. Its very rewarding to me to not only feel great about what I was eating but seeing the results on the scale. In the last 3 weeks I have lost around 5 pounds just from making healthier food choices with a little exercise thrown in.

This blog is going to be my way of keeping track of the progress and help motivate myself. I would also encourage any tips, recipes, words of encouragement or just a nice pat on the back from the readers. This is more for my personal benefit than entertainment. I hope you like what I have to say in the future blogs and thanks for taking a few minutes out of your time to read about my lifestyle changes! :)

Wish me luck!!!!

  2. Well one thing I have to comment on is , Eggs are not Dairy , they are Meat , and for advice , I watched this Vegan guy's video's on Youtube , but I dont eat like a Vegan I just eat Healthy and I just take his Advice and recipes on Juicing is all and all the knowledge he has on Veggies and Fruits and what they all do different for your body cause he has over 20 years Experience in all this , so for all his videos I watch , its why i bought a Breville Juicer and make Fresh Veggie and Fruit juice or Both mixed , and drink tons of it , and you wouldn't believe how even more Fantastic you can feel from the fresh Juice's , it's insane , anyways his Youtube name is , TheLifeRegenerator , like I said I take his advice on Juices and his knowledge of fruits and Veggies but Iam not in any way a Vegan like him , so just like me , just watch some of his video's , and listen to his knowledge , its very Inspiring and helps a ton with wanting to eat Fruits and Veggies a whole lot more , no matter what your regular eating habits are.

  3. An unfertilized egg is not meat but is the product of an animal. A fertilized egg has meat in it, the embryo, but that does not make the egg a meat product.

Another angle on your question is this... A chicken provides food for it's young through the yolk. A cow provides for the embryo through the umbilical cord then, after birth, through milk. Is milk meat?

Going by text books and dictionaries an egg is not meat. Looking at the question from a vegetarian's plate, some classify it as edible but others will exclude it from their diet as if it was meat. They treat milk the same way. Some food guides classify eggs as a meat substitute.

Generally Vegans will not eat dairy products or eggs (nothing from or of an animal), while Vegetarians will eat dairy and eggs (some claiming to be vegetarian will eat chicken or fish just not red meat).

I believe the whole question "Is egg meat?" is debated only because of a difference of opinion in Vegan/Vegetarian circles as to what is the purpose of choosing not to eat meat. Stopping cruelty to animals or eating healthy?

Some Vegans say that if you eat eggs and dairy you are contributing to the cruelty that factory farm animals endure by increasing demand. From this reasoning, for Vegans, eggs and milk are excluded from their diet just as meat is. That point is debated constantly among Vegans and Vegetarians and I believe this difference in philosophy is where the debate over your question originated.
